WIZARD OF OZ

Clicking on to Google this morning I saw the word 'Google' had been incorporated into a picture from the Wizard of Oz to celebrate the 71st anniversary. That means it was released in 1939 so that must have been when I saw it.

Things I remember - Dorothy's pretty twinkly red slippers, her dog, Toto, the singing and dancing (and Technicolour!) and my disappointment when the travellers reached Oz and found the wizard wasn't a wizard at all, or not my idea of what one should look like. He should have looked more like Mickey in The Sorcerer's Apprentice instead of an ordinary, chubby little man!
What's the proper name for the changed Google headers - does anyone know, please?

I've never seen the Wizard of Oz, or at least I don't think I have. Does this mean I had a disadvantaged upbringing. LOL

Love and hugs Gina xxx

Hallo Gina,
No - it just means I'm, um, getting old...!!!!
Most films were in black and white back then so the colour made a real impression. Dorothy's shoes were so far removed from my brown sandals and black lace up shoes that they made an instant impact and reading fairy stories had given me a liking for magic and spells so the ordinary man who was the wizard was such a disappointment... ho hum, that's life, I suppose. All ups and downs.

Hi Micki,
Thanks for your comment.
I took the picture from a video cover many years ago, enlarged it onto squared paper then painted it to get colours and shading right -
I used that to work the canvas. I added a silver thread background because I do like colour! I always (usually) date things I make and this has an unobtrusive date in the bottom right hand corner which says 1996.It doesn't seem that long ago. Ashley is resting on it in About Me.
